Portal 2 Aperture Tag Free Download [2023]

Portal 2 Aperture Tag Introduction:

"Aperture Tag: The Paint Gun Testing Initiative, released in 2014, is a puzzle-platform game developed by the Aperture Tag Team. Originally conceived as a mod for Valve's Portal series, it was officially launched on July 15, 2014. In this game, the traditional portal gun from the series is replaced by a newly introduced paint gun that ejects two types of gel, each with distinct properties. The game introduces fresh characters, voice acting, and a cooperative mode complete with a level editor.

The central tool in Aperture Tag is the paint gun, which can shoot blue and orange gels. These gels, previously seen in Portal 2, offer different abilities: the blue gel facilitates jumping and bouncing, while the orange gel increases speed. Notably, the paint gun allows players to apply these gels to specific surfaces throughout the game's levels, unlike the predefined gel locations in Portal 2.

Gameplay:

Additionally, the game incorporates a feature known as Pneumatic Diversity vents/tubes, which were initially showcased in early Portal 2 trailers but were omitted from the final release. These vents/tubes are employed in Aperture Tag to expedite transitions between levels.

Eugenio Roman, the original creator of the Aperture Tag Team, began brainstorming ideas related to the paint gun and gels even before the release of Portal 2 and the announcement of its gel mechanics. The concept of using paint in Portal games was partly inspired by "Tag: The Power of Paint," a game whose development team later contributed to Portal 2's paint features. Roman was intrigued by the concept and, with permission, adapted a modified paint gun for Aperture Tag.

Roman's interest in the paint gun grew after participating in a Valve-hosted closed beta for the Perpetual Testing Initiative. When he inquired about the possibility of a paint gun add-on for Portal 2's community-made maps, Valve indicated that such an add-on had been abandoned. This prompted Roman to visit Valve in May 2013 and ultimately led to the decision to develop Aperture Tag as a full modification release rather than a series of episodic maps.

The game's soundtrack, featuring compositions by Harry101UK and Christopher McEvoy, also includes the song "All These Walls" by Abarax. Many of the tracks are remixes of music from Portal 2.

Final Words:

Aperture Tag received mixed reviews. ValveTime praised its visuals, level design, gameplay mechanics, variety, and overall polish, but criticized the pacing of the story and dialog. PC Gamer gave it a score of 58 out of 100, noting its lack of balance and repetitive nature but acknowledging the presence of some enjoyable puzzle chambers. Steam reviews generally highlighted issues such as a poorly written script, subpar voice acting, and a controversial $7 price tag for a licensed mod, rather than being offered as a free download."
